Greetings Lilburn, Crossfit and Hamilton Mill Market Folks:

I hope you all are having a good weekend! Markets this past week, were busy and fun! Be sure and get your orders in before Markets close!

Important Reminders, Other Matters and Pertinent Information

Market will close at 9:00pm Sunday for the Crossfit Market!
Market will close at 6:00pm Monday for the Hamilton Mill Market!
Market will close at 6:00pm Monday for the Lilburn Market!

The Newsletter is sent out each week to give you information pertinent to the Market. You can skip reading it now and find it under the Blog Tab to read later if you want to order immediately.

I do ask that you read the blog at some point so you are aware of what is happening with Market!

Volunteers Needed

My heart is warmed by the response to the request for volunteers and we are slowing getting to the point that folks can work just once a month! We still need a few more folks to make that a reality, so if you are interested, please contact Market Chance Claar-Pressley, who is coordinating the volunteers for me. Thank you Chance! You can email Chance at chancita@gmail.com . Chance tells me that we do need volunteers for July 3rd Market. I realize that the next day is a holiday, but if you could spare a couple of hours, it would be greatly appreciated!

“Thank yous” go out to Kathy and Keb Barnes, Susan Coker, Geni and Bruce Wallace and their sond and Marie Wheeler of Bakery on Brooks who all helped out at the Lilburn Market on Thursday.

Sarah Rockey ws under the weather this past Wednesday, but Marie Wheeler jumped right in to help me get all of the items over to the Hamilton Mill Market! What a life-safer she is – always willing to help out and go the extra mile – plus she makes scrumptious Gluten Free Bakery items! Once we arrived at Hamilton Mill, Karen Thain and her two sons helped get the Market setup and ready for folks to pickup their items! I am grateful to you all!

We still need YOU! The goal is to get enough folks on board so that we can rotate volunteer duties. Can you spare a few hours once a month? Without you as Members, the Market would not exist and now the Market needs your help!

Please click Volunteer Information for the Lilburn Market for the particulars! Thanks for your help!

Sarah Heath has also joined the Volunteers at the Hamilton Mill Market and will be starting with us soon! Thank you, Ladies!

Please click Volunteer Information for the Hamilton Mill Market for the particulars! Thanks for your help!

If you have a couple of hours to spare between 10:00am and Noon on Tuesday, please consider volunteering at the Crossfit O-Zone Lawrenceville Market. This is prep and setup for the Tuesday Market as well as packaging meat orders for all Markets. Please contact Maryanne at 404-432-4337.

Ready to be snipped and added to smoothies, salads or your favorite juice! The Black Lab is enjoying snippits of his greens everyday! Both Golden Farms and Rocky Acres offer fresh eggs from pastured chickens fed organic, soy and GMO free feed. Periodically Cara puts notes on the cartons to let you know what special treats her ‘girls’ have gotten in addition to their regular diet of bugs they find out in the pasture! Cute idea to let the children check out what the chickens who produce the eggs they have on their table are eating!

My Daily Bread Bruce and Dabrielle are in Wisconsin this week celebrating Dabrielle’s Uncle’s 93rd birthday! I trust you stocked up on her items! Dabrielle will return to the Markets next week with all of her offerings!

Marie of Bakery on Brooks has done it again! Hummingbird Bread! With some of the same ingredients as the famous Southern Hummingbird Cake, (pineapple, pecans, banana) this bread is a great Breakfast Bread or wonderful treat in the afternoon! Her Rolls, Paleo Bites and Cookies have all been a big hit on the Markets and all of us Gluten Free Folks appreciate her adventuresome spirit in creating wonderful treats that we can eat! I have to admit that her Chocolate Chip Cookies are truly my downfall! They are truly ‘made in heaven’!

In addition to Chicken Eggs, Cara of Golden Farms has Duck Eggs available! Get your order in early because there is a limited supply!

Jay and Patti of Dances With Bees have Honey offerings as well as some other great products! Use honey in your Lemonade for a great flavor! Great in Tea, also! Check this product out and notice the picture that Jay posted! This stuff WORKS!

Patti makes some outstanding Natural Body Products from the honey and beeswax. Her Gardener’s Friend Soap works to get those ‘playin-in-the-dirt’ hands clean and keeps them soft. Fantastic product!

The Happy Cows belonging to Sam Jones of Cedar Rock Dairy continue to produce wonderful milk (for our pets)! The cream line on the jars these last couple of weeks has been impressive! Keep up the good work, ladies!

Rusty Repp of Little Tots Estate offers the sweetest goat milk I have had since I was a child, growing up in Ohio! The milk comes from Nigerian Dwarf Goats who are known to have the highest Butterfat of any milking goats! The Black Lab enjoys some everyday!

… this and that …

Remember my “Bee Invasion” I told you about last week? After the Newsletter went out, I got an Urgent email from Vicky Fry of Fry Farm who informed me that those little midget Carpenter Bees are in fact Bumble Bees that are the best pollinators! She literally saved their little lives as I was plotting their demise. I spoke with Vicky and she suggested that I take a large box, cut a hole in the side of the box, facing away from the area I want to work and after dark, place the box upside down over their nest. This solution seems to be working and we are existing in peace! Vicky is truly a virtual ‘font of knowledge’ and I cannot count the times I have called her with one question about veggies, soil, chickens or gardening and she has patiently given me info and places to look for information! Thank you, Vicky! I appreciate your time, effort and information – and of course your hard work to offer us clean, nutrient-dense food for our tables!

I am headed out to get the yard mowed prior to the rain later this afternoon! The Black Lab just can’t seem to handle using the rider mower; he’s much more comfortable barking at it! (sigh)

I wish you all a happy day and a wonderful week!

It is time to say – thank you for taking the time to read this missive…

Do you have a Garden this year? What are you growing? Would you like to share pictures and ‘words of wisdom’ with other Gardeners? What items are you canning, freezing, dehydrating to preserve the Harvest to enjoy in the “off season”? Do you have any ‘award winning’ recipes? I would love to include stories, pictures and recipes in the Newsletter! Please send me an email if you are interested in participating! Sharing knowledge, wisdom and recipes help to build community!

After Church, the Black Lab and I will be working in the Garden this afternoon. In addition, I seem to have a nest of what looks like small Carpenter Bees that have nested underground under the ‘portico’ of the Garden Shed. They are not happy when I am in the vicinity and I am not happy that they are there! Any suggestions to get rid of them would be greatly appreciated. They are NOT Yellow Jackets or Hornets — they truly look like mini Carpenter Bees!

Last weekend, I was blessed to have the help of Sarah and Tyler Rockey and Austin Smith who came to get some things done that I am unable to do myself! I am most grateful for their help! Yesterday, Sarah and I ‘fenced off’ the area under the stairs and measured for the soon-to-be-built Chicken enclosure. It will be attached to one of the stalls of the barn and they should be happy little hens in their new home!

I wish you all a happy day and a wonderful week!

Kathy Barnes of So Koi came to help with the Crossfit O-Zone Lawrenceville Market Tuesday morning and we got the meat orders packaged in record time! Thanks! What a relief to have help on Tuesday morning! Kathy also volunteered to work at Lilburn Market on Thursday; however, she was a bit under the weather and was not able to make it! Hope you are feeling better, Kathy!

Marie Wheeler of Bakery on Brooks came to drop of her wonderful Gluten Products and stayed to work at the Lilburn Market on Thursday! I was thrilled! She has been busy with family obligations and spending time with the “grands”, and although I am happy for her, I sure have missed her smiling face and energizer-bunny-attitude! Of course she also brought me a new ‘goodie’ to try and that also was greatly appreciated! Look for her new Gluten Free “Hummingbird Bread” to be added to her offerings soon!

Thanks also to Susan Cocker who worked hard this past Thursday helping to set up and working with Marie to check folks out. Geni (Yolanda) Wallace and her fine sons were also a tremendous help setting up the Lilburn Market yesterday and we had it done in about 45 minutes! Bruce Wallace, (the Dad!)came at Market close and got my car loaded! Thank you all! Time passed very quickly and everyone worked efficiently to get items distributed and Market ready to go! A very sincere thank you to all!

Jay and Patti of Dances With Bees are back this week! Use honey in your Lemonade for a great flavor! Add some crushed Raspberries from Doug’s Garden and you will never go back to plain ole Lemonade again! Great in Tea, also!

Patti makes some outstanding Natural Body Products from the honey and beeswax. I have her Gardener’s Friend Soap on my list this week! Wow – it really works to get those ‘playin-in-the-dirt’ hands clean and keeps them soft. Fantastic product!

… this and that …

Today is Flag Day! Fly our Flag today in honor of our country and the brave men and women that have fought for over 200 hundred years for our freedom. Our National Anthem is The Star Spangled Banner written by Francis Scott Key in 1814 as a poem entitled “Defense of Fort McHenry” The poem was later put to the tune of The Anacreontic Song by John Stafford Smith, modified somewhat and named “The Star Spangled Banner”. It was proclaimed our National Anthem by Congress when Woodrow Wilson was president in 1931.

This morning as I placed the flag in its holder, I had a flashback to my childhood. We flew the flag everyday in front of our home. It was a privilege and a much sought after honor to participate in raising (and lowering) the flag each day with one of the parents and say the “Pledge of Allegiance”. I spent many Summers attending Fort Scott Camp, outside of Cincinnati, Ohio and can remember being the youngest camper in the Color Guard for Flag raising and lowering because I knew how to fold the flag! Please take a moment to listen to the words of the 4th verse of The Star Spangled Banner, reflect on the words and proudly display our Flag!

Greetings Lilburn, Crossfit and Hamilton Mill Market Folks:

Please Note: We have had a sudden influx of New Members on the Website this past month. There are no addresses listed nor are there any phone numbers, which is suspect. If you are receiving this email and did NOT sign up for the Market, please email Maryanne heirloomlivingmarket@gmail.com and put REMOVE in the SUBJECT line. Your email will promptly be removed from the mailing list.

I hope you are all enjoying the weekend! Yesterday was my Birthday and I spent a wonderful day with a friend. We drove up to Franklin, NC, a quaint, beautiful town which is surrounded by mountains. On the way from Dabrielle’s home in Cleveland, GA, we checked out various Flea and Antique shops! My birthday cake was Gluten Free Cream Cheese Brownies and they are divine! Maybe, they will appear in Dabrielle’s offerings soon! It was a relaxing, stress free day! Dabrielle’s Birthday is Wednesday – Happy Birthday!

Volunteers Needed

Thank you to Chance Claar-Pressley, who volunteered to coordinate volunteers for all of the Markets. If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Chance at chancita@gmail.com .

Thanks to Rebecca White who generously volunteered Thursday evening for breakdown of Market.

Thanks also to Kathy Barnes and her husband Keb for all of their help with Market this past Thursday at Lilburn! Please know that your time and efforts are appreciated!

Sarah Rockey is the primary volunteer at the Hamilton Mill Market. Pat Gibbon has also stepped up to help us out! Thank you ladies!

Farmer Updates

Miss Vicky of Fry Farm has some great produce to offer this week: Green Onions, Leeks, Rainbow Carrots, Little Finger Carrots, Fresh Dill, White Super Star Onions, Rad Candy Apple Onions, Yellow Candy Onions Rhubarb and Zucchini.

The Veggie Patch is providing a good selection of wonderful fresh SUmmer veggie offerings and have fresh Herbs listed as well! Arugula, Bunching Onions, 4 types of Kale or a Mix, Green Lettuce, Red Lettuce, Mizuna, 2 kinds of HOT Peppers, Salad Mix and Swiss Chard. In addition, they offer cuttings if Herbs: German Thyme, Rosemary, 2 types of Parsley, Oregano, Chives and Medicinal Herbs: Marjoram, Lavender and Chamomile. The Heirloom Seedlings, that I planted are all doing well! Andrew and his crew certainly got them off to a banner start — and I cannot wait to reap the fruits (veggies) of my Garden!

Doug of Doug’s Garden 4 types of Veggie Boxes available on the all Markets this week. The Basic Box and the Herb Lovers Box both contain a plethora of Veggies with the Herb Box having an additional bag of FRESH Herbs! (lots of herbs!) The ‘Slaw Box’, with Kohlrabi, Kale and Carrots is a treat. The new kid on the block this week is: Early Summer Veggie Box, a great addition to any other Basic Box, which contains: Yellow squash, Green Beans, Cucumbers, Carrots, Beets, Tomatoes, Chard, and Onions. Doug has also listed Raspberries! Don’t miss out on these plump little red globes that make a great snack! Also use in smoothies, add to cereal, make muffins…use your imagination! These are seasonal, so you may want to get extra and freeze or dehydrate some to have for the Fall and Winter seasons!

Lizzie’s Pantry is back! She has added a 1.6lb bag of 7 Grain Cereal for those of us who don’t need the larger quantity! Also, check out her Georgia local Olive Oil!

Cedar Seeder! Sunflowers, Broccoli, Wheat Grass, Kale SPROUTS are ready for us to eat! Also called Microgreens or Micros – no matter your preference of names, these are little but mighty powerhouses of nutrient dense food! These are plants and come in pots that fit into the Cedar Planters hand made by George. (You can purchase the planters on the Market also!) Either way – put them in your kitchen window and add to salads, smoothies or juices!

Krista was the Farmer of the Week at all Markets this past week to showcasing their wonderful Microgreens as well as the new “Spring Veggie Rolls”. Tender Microgreens packed in Nori or Rice Paper with a great sauce! Very, very tasty and healthy! She has listed them on the Markets this week!

In an effort to keep the availability of Organic, Free Trade coffee on the Market, I am working with Sue Martinson of All Saints Lutheran Church. Sue is the coordinator for the Organic and Free Trade Coffees and Teas that they are selling. Look for these items to be available next week on all Markets. Lilburn folks see Sue at the Market each Thursday as she helps with Market and offers samples! The sale of the Coffee and Teas is an ongoing fund raiser for All Saints Lutheran Church. What better way to say thank you to them for the use of their wonderful space than to include the products they are offering? I will be working with Sue in the coming week to get the items listed on all Markets! Look for all the details in Newsletter next week when their products will be listed on the Markets!

Be sure and check out the wonderful meat selections available from B&G Farms. Try some Pork Chops on the grill! Yummy!

Carrell Farms is back! Check out their offerings! Great savings on a case of Ground Buffalo – and don’t forget Bones! Water Buffalo makes awesome, rich Bone Broth!

Both Golden Farms and Rocky Acres offer fresh eggs from pastured chickens fed organic, soy and GMO free feed.

If you are interested in Lamb, please contact Maryanne at 404-432-4337. White Gates Farm near Butler, Georgia has Lamb offerings.

My Daily Bread supplies us with fresh, organic baked goods that are yummy! Be sure and check out Dabrielle’s offerings this week. We never know what will be brought for the Farmers’ Sale Table, so be sure and place an order for what you want so you are not disappointed.

Dabrielle and Bruce will not have items listed on the Market for the week of June 22nd. They are taking off in their Motor Home to visit family in Wisconsin! Be sure and stock up on your goodies this week and next!

Although you may not see Marie of Bakery on Brooks at Market every week, her Gluten Free and Paleo goodies are offered on the Market! She is a creative Baker (read Mad Scientist in the Kitchen) and has found the secret of Gluten Free goodies. Her Paleo Bites are fabulous – don’t know how she does it – but they are small and mighty bites of heaven! Try any of the varieties. I will stick with the Almond Joy thank you very much! Her newest addition of Yeast Rolls are getting rave reviews and I am grateful that there is a Gluten Free option for Bread that is delicious!

Dances With Bees is on vacation this week and next. Patti and Jay are taking some well deserved time off!

Cedar Rock Dairy

Sam’s Farm is located in Butler, Georgia which is over 2 hours away from our area! Although we try and stay within a 100 mile radius (Local), the quality of the milk from Sam’s tested A2 Jersey herd are an exception! In order for it to work for Sam, we must have a minimum weekly order! Please keep sharing the Market with friends and family so that our pets can continue to enjoy wonderful, fresh milk!

To catch everyone up on Mary’s progress since her accident… At her May check up the doctor determined that Mary was allergic to the stainless steel plate and screws that were placed to stabilize her ankle! Although the surgery to remove the metal was performed on May 28th, guess who came to market this past Thursday? Yes, Mary walked (hobbled) into Market with a smile on her face! She is doing well and knows that the removal of the steel will allow her body to heal completely! Please keep her in your prayers!

I continue to be busy trying to keep up with the ‘little yellow house on the hill’ homestead. The Black Lab continues to ‘help’! He is great at keeping the birds away from the garden; however, for some reason, he has dug up two of my pepper plants! After a serious discussion (and some chicken wire) that problem is now solved!

It is time to say – thank you for taking the time to read this missive…
