‘A Star is Born’
Yes, our own Greg Hutchins of Heritage Farm was filmed at his Farm, with his chickens and his youngest son, Jordan, by Piedmont Healthcare explaining why Eggs from Pasture Raised Hens are superior to eggs one can buy at the Supermarket! Great job, Greg! Thank you for producing such great products for our Members!
Also here is a great “Infographic” about egg labeling and what the label really means. (This infographic was created by takepart and shared by Sarah, the Healthy Home Economist. Both of these links would be great to share with co-workers, family, friends (or whomever) that doesn’t quite ‘get’ the importance of Knowing Your Farmer!!

Last week, Greg Hutchins of Heritage Farm made the trip to the processing plant in KY and Chicken Pre-Orders will be delivered this week. All Pre-Orders must be picked up this week regardless of whether you order items for current week pickup! Whole Chickens and Parts are still available, but you know Chicken sells out quickly! Greg always has chickens growing, but it takes time and there is usually lag time between processing runs! Stock up now! Also check out Bacon Ends and Pieces on Special this week!
Ahhhh, cooler weather! Hopefully the high 80’s and 90 degree weather is behind us! Our Farmers are busy harvesting the last of their summer crops and caring for the Fall and early Winter Crops! Soon we will be seeing the fruits of those labors! With a little cooler temps, some of the late summer crops may come back – it is up to Mother Nature! Be patient, please! Our Farmers are passionate about bringing us the best!
A note about Eggs from Little Tots… Rusty increased his flock to offer our Members eggs and some of the hens have reached maturity and are now producing eggs; however, please understand that these eggs are smaller than the eggs you are used to purchasing. As the hens continue to mature, the eggs will increase in size but due to the breed of chicken will never be as large as those available from Rocky Acres. Rusty has many hens that are still growing and will be producing within the next couple of months. I suggest you order early if you want eggs from Little Tots. Of course Eggs from both Rocky Acres and Little Tots Estate are from pasture raised hens who scratch and peck, eat bugs and generally do “chicken things”. They are supplemented with Organic, Soy Free feed.
My Daily Bread is offering their awesome Chocolate Zucchini Bread on Special this week! Dabrielle’s recipe results in a deliciously moist, rich dark chocolate sweet bread that is perfect with Tea, Coffee or a big glass of fresh milk! The little ones will not even know there is a healthy veggie hidden in this treat! Both the large loaf and the small loaf are on Special! Order an extra to put in the freezer!

Last Spring I let everyone know that our Milk orders had dropped and if our orders did not ‘rebound’, it would be necessary for Sam to increase the price of Raw Cow Milk or stop delivering to our Markets. Effective this week:

With the heat and humidity of August, veggie production slowed quite radically as evidenced by the offerings on the Market. It is so tough being a Veggie Farmer and I am grateful that there are those who take this task willingly! Besides fighting weeds which seem to take on a life of their own in the later part of the summer season, the Farmers are also busy preparing the soil, planning and planting for the Fall and early Winter Crops! Greg Hutchins of Heritage Farm has listed Chicken for Pre-Order this week! Whole Chicken, Boneless Skinless Breasts, Bone-in Breasts, Cut-up Whole Chickens, Chicken Livers are all available. Items will be available for pickup at the Market on September 17th. (Please note, my original post with a delivery date of September 10th was in error) Get your orders in soon so you don’t miss out on this opportunity.
I can hardly believe that today is the last day of August! Where did the Summer go? The Holidays will be upon us before we know it and this is a reminder to get your orders in for your Holiday Meats! Greg still has some reservations available for Turkeys and Hams. Reserve your pasture raised Holiday Meat now!
My Daily Bread is back this week! Bruce’s surgery was quite successful and he is once again his ‘Energizer Bunny’ self! Dabrielle is no ‘slacker’ but comments frequently that Bruce runs circles around her! Amazing couple – producing/creating excellent quality Bakery items and other ‘Foodstuffs’ for our families!
Shalley and David Carrell of Carrell Farms are back from a well-deserved vacation! Have you tried Water Buffalo or Alpaca? For an introduction to Alpaca, I suggest the Sweet Italian Alpaca Sausage or the Cranberry Sage Alpaca Sausage! If you are a maker of Bone Broth, be sure and try the Water Buffalo Soup Bones! They make a rich hearty Broth!

Dabrielle and Bruce of My Daily Bread have no items listed on the Market this week. Bruce is having surgery on Wednesday (I mistakenly reported it was Thursday). Please keep him in your prayers as well as Dabrielle, their son Brandon and the Doctor and staff who will be performing his surgery. We wish you well, Bruce!
Marie of Bakery on Brooks will no longer be baking for the Market. This is most unfortunate for all of us. Please keep her in your prayers for the healing of her ulcers.
The end of Summer is fast approaching and we can see this in the decrease in the availability of Summer Produce! Greg Hutchins of Heritage Farm has helped us out by adding some produce that he has available! The Cherokee Purple, German Johnson and Yellow Giants are all Heirloom Varieties and delicious. When Greg was delivering last week and he opened the ‘tomato cooler’, the wonderful aroma took me back to the garden! What a wonderful smell and the Tomatoes are delicious! Be sure and check out all of the Veggies our Local Farmers have listed this week! Lots of Eggplants, Peppers, Cucumbers, Collards, Kale, Okra!
I admit to an addiction to ga sourdough CRACKERS! Tracy has really nailed the crunch, the taste and just the right amount of salt! Although I am Gluten Free, I find that I can eat these little snacks (in moderation) and not have any issues!

I have spoken with Tammy Burnell of Burnell Farms and they plan to rejoin the Market at the beginning of October. Currently they are involved in Open Air Farmers’ Markets and are working on opening their own small Market near their Farm!
Morris Cleveland of Healing Earth Farm will be back with us as soon as he has items ready to harvest. I will let you know as soon as he returns.
I spoke with Vicky Fry of Fry Farm on Friday. Although Vicky does have other items growing, her listed items only reflect a few. This is because Vicky and Steve do not want to disappoint anyone if items ordered are not ready for harvest on Market Day. I have suggested to Vicky that she let me know on Wednesday what additional items will be harvested prior to Market on Thursday. In my ‘Market Day reminder email’ on Thursday morning, I will let you know what will be available from Fry Farm at Market. This is a heads up, so you can budget for extras!
Please note that Rusty of Little Tots Estate has now listed eggs on the Market! He has Copper Maran Hens which produce dark brown eggs. He also has chickens that produce blue eggs and green eggs as well. His hens live in the pasture and receive Organic Feed as a supplement.
The Black Lab is currently enjoying a vacation in Ohio with my brother, his wife and their Brittney Spaniel, Doyle. It was a difficult and painful decision to make; however, it is temporary and I know how well loved and cared for he will be until I am in a position to bring him home.
I humbly ask for your prayers for me. At present I am faced with challenges that seem to be overwhelming; however, I am confident that with God’s blessings and grace all will be well. Please pray that God will guide me on His path and give me wisdom, discernment, peace of mind and financial stability. Please know that I appreciate your prayers on my behalf.

I am a strong believer in the power of prayer. Bruce Wills of My Daily Bread will have surgery on Thursday to replace the leads for his pacemaker. Please pray for the success of the surgery, a swift recovery and peace of mind for Bruce. Also, please keep Dabrielle and their son Brandon in your prayers as well. My Daily Bread will return to the Market next week.
Marie Wheeler of Bakery on Brooks has been diagnosed with a bleeding ulcer. Please pray that this diagnosis and treatment will relieve the issues that she has been living with for quite some time.
